Frequently asked Questions
Whether you're shopping for a single item or a houseful of lights and fans, our knowledgeable salespeople will guide you in the right direction. We've answered some frequently asked questions that we are sure we can help you.
Ques: How do I get started?
Ans: First, we need to determine if the light fixture(s) or fan(s) is for indoor or outdoor application. Especially here in Florida, there are special requirements. If you do not see exactly what you want, we offer catalogues from which, you can order at no additional charge.
Ques: What is the difference between exterior and interior fixtures and fans?
Ans: Exterior fixtures are manufactured to withstand the weather. We do recommend a gentle cleaning every six months to prolong the life of the light. Interior lighting is fashioned for specific room applications. Style, size, color and price are to be considered here.
There is a definite difference between outdoor and indoor fans. An outdoor fan is designed with a sealed motor housing, stainless steel hardware and plastic blades in order to withstand climate conditions.
Ques: Is it possible to coordinate the styles and colors of fixtures and fans through out my home?
Ans: Most companies introduce their fixtures and fans in groups called 'families". Whether it is a mini pendant over the island or a fixture for the dining area, you'll have lots to choose from.
Ques: How do I determine the size of my chandelier?
Ans: It is commonly advised that the fixture be approximately half the width of the table and be installed about 6' from the floor. Other considerations need to address room size and ceiling height.
Ques: What size fan is right for the room?
Ans: Here again, room size and ceiling height are the major factors. Selecting a proper ceiling fan should be done as carefully as picking a piece of furniture. Performance, blade size (ranging from 24" to 72") and blade pitch (from 12* to 16*), style and color need to be considered.
Ques: Can I "customize" a fan?
Ans: Many factories show motor and blade styles as one unit but if you order from within the company, there are opportunities to select a motor color/style and a blade color/style of your choice. This includes many of our very popular leaf blade styles.
Ques: Can I add a light kit to any fan?
Ans: This option is available for most fans. It can be done at the moment of purchase or at any time once the fan is installed. It is helpful to know the manufacturer to assure proper fit.
Ques: Do you offer installation?
Ans: If you purchase a fixture or fan from us, we will gladly arrange installation. Approved existing electrical pre-wire, ceiling heights and size of the item to be installed will dictate the service charge.
Ques: I have recessed lighting in an area where I'd like to install a fixture. How can this be done?
Ans: New to the market and available in this area only from the Gallery is the 'can converter'. This device makes conversion so easy!
Ques: Do you have ceiling medallions in stock?
Ans: There is always a wide selection of ceiling medallions not only in the showroom but also are available for quick shipment. You can dress up a fixture or fan with this decorative touch. We can guide you in selecting the size and style that's right for you.
Ques: How can I update the look of my table lamps?
Ans: We offer a great variety of shades and finials and can also special order to meet your needs. Please bring your lamp with you (it's like the head) to find the correct shade (it's like the hat)!
Ques: I'm building a new home. When should I make my lighting and fan selections?
Ans: At the time you make your decisions on indoor/outdoor paint, wall coverings, tile and roof materials you can start your selection of lighting fixtures and fans. It may take several reviews to make a final decision but we encourage you to confirm the order no later than the drywall installation so your order can be properly processed.
